‘Born Sustainable’ , more than only JIFFY’s Product line!

In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions in line with the company’s  ‘Born Sustainable’ strategy, Jiffy International AS has introduced a new ‘company car policy’ at many of the companies that are part of the ‘Jiffy International’ group. The new policy has been taken in effect in North America as well as Europe and the latest estimate indicates the reduction in CO2 emissions as a direct result of this policy,  currently stands well over 130 tons of CO2 .

The initiative of attempting to reduce CO2 emissions from the ‘Jiffy car fleet’ was taken in North America where many of the  North American company vehicles of our sales representatives, leased or owned, now have  been replaced with new Hybrid vehicles, greatly reducing emissions.  Combined, the Jiffy Group leases well over 40 company vehicles in the USA and Canada, divided over three different company sales teams.

USA located companies of the Jiffy Group participating in the initiative are; Jiffy Products of America Inc., located in Lorain OH, at this time almost 100% converted, as well as the Ferry Morse Seed company located in Fulton KY, soon to have converted 84% of its vehicles on the road. In Canada, McKenzie Seeds, based in Brandon Manitoba, has 11 vehicles coming up for renewal (lease) over the next two years and will have 7 to 8 vehicles converted within the next 18 months. The goal for McKenzie is converting 70% of its cars by 2011. Two years ago when vehicle leases came up for renewal, efforts were made by McKenzie to convert to Hybrids, however the sourcing of hybrid vehicles proofed difficult at that time and the decision was made to postpone. Canadian Sales representatives of ‘Jiffy Products of America’  being part of the JPA vehicle emission reduction policy, have all been converted to Hybrid vehicles in Canada.

The North American initiative to reduce Jiffy’s company car carbon emissions has been taken a step further by implementing a similar strategy in Europe where sales representatives in need of a company vehicle now have no other option than driving a vehicle ‘approved by Jiffy’ as a ‘Green Company Car’. Making it on the ‘Jiffy Approval list’  solely depends on the actual carbon emissions of the vehicle. Does the emission fall within the ‘Jiffy Allowable Standard’, the car makes it onto the list and can be driven by our employees. In the Netherlands all company cars are now leased from Bleu Tag-lease (http://www.bluetaglease.nl) , a company specialized in environmentally sound mobility. Jiffy’s European companies adhering to the new company car emission guidelines are; Jiffy Products Nederland BV based in Hoek van Holland, the Netherlands and TREF Substrates BV, based at Moerdijk the Netherlands, however the policy will be implemented to all Jiffy sales and production entities in Europe, totaling 43 company vehicles.

By implementing this stricter ‘company car policy’, Jiffy  estimates to have reduced CO2 emissions globally by well over a 130 tons on a yearly base so far.
