Jiffy pellets contain a starter nutrient fertilizer in order to keep the seedlings growing for a few days until liquid nutrients can be added, as well as a very tiny amount of wetting agent to allow the peat moss to take up water more readily.

All plants and transplants started in Jiffy Mixes require additional fertilizer. Jiffy-7 Pellets contain a small starter nutrient charge which will be gone by the third watering. Jiffy-Peat Pots contain no added nutrients or fertilizers.
